  • Exhaust Leaks (Upstream of Sensor): While less common for an “intermittent” code, small, transient exhaust leaks upstream of the sensor could theoretically cause fluctuations in measured back pressure that trigger the code.
  • PCM/ECM Malfunction: In rare cases, an internal fault within the PCM/ECM could lead to misinterpretation of a valid sensor signal as intermittent; however, this is usually a last resort diagnosis.

How to Diagnose and Troubleshoot

    • Monitor the “Exhaust Pressure” (EP_PSI, EP_KPA, EP_VOLTS, etc.) parameter with the key on, engine off (KOEO). Always use a sensor specific to the vehicle’s make, model, and engine.
  • DPF System Service (if related): If the intermittent sensor issue was a symptom of a larger DPF problem (e.g., persistent DPF clogging due to failed regenerations), address the underlying DPF condition as well, which may involve forced regeneration, cleaning, or replacement.
