Jetour Red Airbag SRS Malfunction Warning Light

🔴 CRITICAL / STOP DRIVING

What Does This Indicator Mean?

The Jetour Red Airbag SRS Malfunction Warning Light is a critical safety notification designed to alert the driver of a fault within the vehicle’s Supplemental Restraint System. Specifically, this indicator illuminates when the Jetour body control module or dedicated Restraints Control Module (RCM) detects an electrical resistance anomaly, communication failure, sensor fault, or hardware malfunction across the active restraint network. This subsystem encompasses the front and side impact sensors, seatbelt pre-tensioners, clockspring assembly in the steering column, curtain airbags, and the dual-stage airbag igniters themselves. During the vehicle’s initial startup check cycle, the RCM sends a diagnostic current through all deployment loops. If the control unit registers an open circuit, a short to ground, or an implausible sensor reading, it immediately latches a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) into its non-volatile memory and illuminates this high-priority red warning lamp on the instrument cluster.

Can I Still Drive with This Light On?

No, you should not continue to operate the vehicle in a normal manner while this red warning light is illuminated. Because the severity color is red, it dictates an immediate safety hazard that requires prompt professional intervention. In the event of a sudden collision or deceleration event, a compromised SRS means the airbags, knee bolsters, and seatbelt pre-tensioners may either fail to deploy when needed or, conversely, deploy inadvertently without provocation. While the warning light does not typically impact the mechanical propulsion, steering, or braking capabilities of the vehicle’s internal combustion engine or drivetrain, it severely impairs the vehicle’s occupant protection architecture, exposing all passengers to extreme risk of severe injury.

Common Causes of the Warning

  • Clockspring Failure: The spiral cable assembly located behind the steering wheel wears out over time due to continuous steering rotations, severing the electrical continuity to the driver airbag module and steering wheel controls.
  • Seatbelt Buckle Switch Resistance: High resistance or internal mechanical failure within the driver or front passenger seatbelt buckle sensor prevents the RCM from confirming seatbelt occupancy status.
  • Under-Seat Wiring Harness Corrosion: Moisture, dirt, or seat movement damages the yellow proprietary SRS connectors and wiring harnesses running beneath the front seats, commonly triggering side-airbag or seatbelt pre-tensioner fault codes.

How to Diagnose and Reset It

Diagnosing a Jetour SRS malfunction requires specialized equipment, as standard generic powertrain OBD2 scanners cannot read body or safety chassis codes. You will need a bi-directional automotive diagnostic scanner capable of accessing the Jetour Restraints Control Module (RCM). Begin by connecting the diagnostic tool to the 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the dashboard to retrieve specific manufacturer-level DTCs. Inspect the diagnostic trouble codes to pinpoint the exact circuit or component at fault, such as a specific side impact sensor or stage-one igniter. Visually inspect the associated wiring harnesses, particularly the yellow connectors beneath the front seats, looking for pin corrosion, loose terminals, or frayed wires. Repair or replace the damaged component adhering to proper safety protocols, which includes disconnecting the 12-volt battery and waiting at least ten minutes to deplete capacitor reserve energy before handling any airbag components. Once the underlying mechanical or electrical fault is fully rectified, use the diagnostic scan tool to clear the error codes from the RCM memory and verify that the red warning light goes out during the next ignition cycle.
