Acura Yellow Adaptive Cruise Control ACC Error Light

⚠️ WARNING / SERVICE REQUIRED

What Does This Indicator Mean?

The Acura Yellow Adaptive Cruise Control ACC Error Light indicates a fault within the vehicle’s advanced driver-assistance system, specifically affecting the millimeter-wave radar unit mounted behind the front grille and the multi-purpose camera attached to the upper interior windshield. When this yellow warning illuminates on your Precision Cockpit or Multi-Information Display (MID), the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Driver Support System Processor have detected a disruption in data communication, sensor calibration misalignment, or an obstructed field of view. This subsystem is responsible for maintaining a set speed and following distance relative to vehicles ahead. A yellow severity classification means the system has suffered a non-critical fault and has automatically disengaged, reverting full longitudinal control back to the driver while keeping normal mechanical braking and conventional cruise control operational depending on the specific model year.

Can I Still Drive with This Light On?

Yes, you can safely continue driving your Acura, but with a critical caveat. Because this is a yellow severity warning indicator, it denotes a degraded auxiliary driver-aid function rather than an imminent powertrain or foundation brake failure. The primary mechanical systems, engine, transmission, and hydraulic anti-lock braking system remain fully functional. However, your Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) will be temporarily disabled. You must rely entirely on your own manual braking and throttle inputs until the root cause is diagnosed and repaired.

Common Causes of the Warning

  • Radar and Camera Obstruction: Accumulation of heavy snow, ice, mud, road grime, or aftermarket window tint directly over the upper windshield camera or front bumper radar emblem will trigger a blocked sensor error code.
  • Radar Alignment Shift: Minor front-end impacts, parking lot bumps, or chassis misalignment can alter the physical mounting angle of the millimeter-wave radar sensor beyond its self-calibration tolerance limits.
  • Electrical Communication Faults: High resistance, corrosion, or pin fretting within the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus wiring harness connecting the ADAS control units can disrupt data packets, causing the system to throw an error code.

How to Diagnose and Reset It

Begin your diagnostic procedure with a manual physical inspection. Safely park your Acura and inspect the front bumper grille and the upper windshield area near the rearview mirror for any physical obstructions, debris, or salt buildup. Clean these zones thoroughly with automotive glass cleaner and a microfiber towel. Next, inspect the front bumper assembly for any signs of minor impact that may have pushed the radar bracket out of alignment. If the physical components are clean and undamaged, retrieve diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) using an advanced OBD-II scanner capable of reading Honda/Acura network body and chassis codes (such as U-codes or B-codes related to the ADAS module). Clear the stored faults using the diagnostic tool. If the light returns immediately, the vehicle will require a professional dynamic or static sensor recalibration procedure performed at an authorized service center using specialized target boards and diagnostic software.
