Jetour Yellow Glow Plug Warning Light

⚠️ WARNING / SERVICE REQUIRED

What Does This Indicator Mean?

The Jetour Yellow Glow Plug Warning Light is a specialized dashboard indicator exclusively found on diesel-powered Jetour vehicles. In a diesel internal combustion engine, air is compressed to such a high degree that it becomes extremely hot, which then ignites the diesel fuel. However, when the engine is cold—especially during cold ambient starts—the metal engine block absorbs this heat, preventing ignition. To counteract this, glow plugs act as small heating elements that pre-heat the combustion chambers. When the Engine Control Module (ECM) initiates the ignition sequence, it powers these glow plugs to ensure a clean, efficient start.

The yellow glow plug light illuminates when the ECM detects an anomaly, increased resistance, open circuit, or voltage drop within the pre-heating subsystem. Modern Jetour diesels use intelligent glow plug control modules that continuously monitor the electrical current draw of each individual plug. If a glow plug fails to reach its optimal operating temperature, or if a circuit fault is registered by the onboard diagnostic network, the ECM triggers this yellow indicator to alert the driver to a pre-heater system degradation or post-heating fault.

Can I Still Drive with This Light On?

Because this indicator features a yellow severity rating, it signifies a non-immediate safety emergency, meaning you can typically drive the vehicle for a short distance to reach a safe location or a repair facility. However, continued operation is strongly discouraged. A malfunctioning glow plug system can lead to extended cranking times, severe cold-starting failures, unburned diesel fuel washing down the cylinder walls, and potential thermal shock to the exhaust aftertreatment system, including the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Driving with this light illuminated can quickly escalate repair costs if unaddressed.

Common Causes of the Warning

  • Burnt-Out Glow Plug Heating Element: Over thousands of thermal cycles, the internal resistance wire inside the glow plug can fracture or burn out completely, resulting in an open circuit that the ECM flags instantly.
  • Faulty Glow Plug Control Relay or Module: The solid-state relay responsible for switching high current to the glow plugs may experience internal contact failure, preventing voltage from reaching the combustion chambers regardless of plug condition.
  • High Resistance Wiring or Corroded Harness Connectors: Engine bay exposure to moisture and vibration can degrade the wiring harness terminals leading to the glow plugs, causing voltage drops and triggering resistance fault codes in the ECM.

How to Diagnose and Reset It

Diagnosing the Jetour Yellow Glow Plug Warning Light requires a methodical approach starting with electronic scanning. First, plug a compatible OBD2 scanner capable of reading manufacturer-specific diesel powertrain codes into the vehicle data link connector underneath the dashboard. Look for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) starting with code P0670 through P0674, which pinpoint exact cylinder glow plug failures or general circuit issues. Next, pop the hood and perform a visual inspection of the wiring harness and connectors attached to the glow plugs. For a definitive physical check, use a digital multimeter set to ohms to measure the electrical resistance of each glow plug; a reading significantly outside the manufacturer specification indicates a dead plug requiring immediate replacement. Once the faulty component—whether it is a plug, relay, or wiring segment—is physically repaired or replaced, use your OBD2 diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes from the ECM memory and confirm the yellow warning light turns off permanently upon the next ignition cycle.
