Jetour Yellow Engine Coolant Level Warning Light

⚠️ WARNING / SERVICE REQUIRED

What Does This Indicator Mean?

The Jetour Yellow Engine Coolant Level Warning Light is an active diagnostic notification generated by the vehicle Body Control Module or Powertrain Control Module when the expansion tank fluid drops below the designated engineering threshold. Specifically tailored for Jetour models such as the X70 or X90 series, this indicator relies on a resistive float sensor or conductivity probes integrated directly into the coolant expansion reservoir. When the coolant volume drops due to evaporation, consumption, or an external leak, the sensor circuit changes state, prompting the instrument cluster to illuminate the amber warning icon to alert the operator of a compromised thermal management subsystem.

Can I Still Drive with This Light On?

Because this indicator features a yellow severity rating, it signifies an early-stage warning rather than an immediate catastrophic engine shutdown condition. However, you should exercise extreme caution. Continuing to drive without inspecting and addressing the underlying fluid loss can quickly escalate into a severe overheat condition, leading to warped cylinder heads, blown head gaskets, or total engine seizure. It is strongly advised to pull over safely as soon as possible, let the engine cool down completely, and verify the fluid levels before undertaking any further driving.

Common Causes of the Warning

  • Coolant Reservoir Level Depletion: Natural evaporation over extended service intervals or minor, unaddressed external fluid leaks at hose connections, radiator seams, or water pump seals have reduced the volume of fluid in the expansion tank below the minimum operating line.
  • Faulty Coolant Level Sensor: The magnetic float mechanism inside the expansion tank reservoir has become stuck due to sediment buildup, scale, or internal electrical failure, falsely signaling a low fluid condition even when the tank is adequately filled.
  • Compromised Wiring Harness or Connector: Corrosion, thermal degradation, or physical chafing of the low-level sensor wiring harness is causing high resistance or an open circuit, which the vehicle control module interprets as a low fluid level fault.

How to Diagnose and Reset It

Diagnosing this warning requires a methodical approach combining manual inspection and electrical testing. First, ensure the engine is completely cold and safely parked on level ground. Open the hood and visually inspect the translucent engine coolant expansion tank to verify the actual fluid level against the min and max markings. If the fluid level is genuinely low, check the entire cooling system for leaks using a pressure tester. If the coolant level is correct, disconnect the electrical connector at the coolant reservoir sensor and use a digital multimeter to check for continuity or proper reference voltage. If the sensor is reading open circuit despite correct fluid levels, replace the expansion tank reservoir assembly, as the sensor is typically integrated directly into the tank. Once the mechanical or electrical fault is rectified, top off the cooling system with the manufacturer-specified coolant formulation, and the dashboard warning light will automatically extinguish once the control module confirms the sensor circuit has returned to a normal operating state.
