Under extreme operating conditions, MAN D2842 marine engines can run continuously at full load. ICE MAN D2842 are robust, dependable, and cost-effective. Because of its small size, it saves space on board and optimizes the vessel’s loading without sacrificing power.

D2842 motors are lightweight, compact, powerful, and have a long service life. Advantages of engines:
- high power ratings with eco-friendly performance;
- quick adaptation to load changes;
- safe peak load regulation;
- robust, compact design;
- high operational efficiency due to low fuel and lubricating oil consumption and low maintenance costs.

Like the engine block, the MAN D2842 engine’s crankcase is constructed of modified cast iron. Together, these two components make one. More structural rigidity is obtained because of the part’s shape, which is extended downward.
The D 2842’s crankshaft has a twin counterweight and seven bearings. The rotating O-rings in the crankshaft seal are replaceable. Hot-formed connecting rods are used. Lead bronze is used in the bearings that rotate the crankshaft and connecting rods.
There are seven bearings on the camshaft, which is situated in the middle of the cylinder block. Gear wheels that mesh with the crankshaft wheel power its drive, oil pump, and high-pressure fuel pump. The suspension valves above the cylinder are opened by the rocker arms, which are driven by the transmission elements.
The D2842 from MAN has a circulating lubrication system. The multiple circulation of oil from the oil pan to the main distribution pipeline, which it then travels to, is what makes this system unique:
- bearings (connecting rod and camshaft);
- bushings;
- rocker arms.
Oil from the circulation system lubricates the cylinders and camshaft. The circulation system’s line is equipped with an oil filter that removes used oil.
Fuel is supplied to the high pressure pump via a coarse filter by the fuel priming pump. After that, the fuel is pumped in, passed through a fine filter, and sent to the injectors via a high-pressure fuel pump.

50,000 hours is the manufacturer’s stated resource (subject to maintenance and operating regulations). The engine needs to be overhauled after that.
