Hyundai Green Cruise Control Active Indicator Light

🟢 INFO / SYSTEM ACTIVE

What Does This Indicator Mean?

The Hyundai Green Cruise Control Active Indicator Light is a status notification rather than a traditional diagnostic warning light. In Hyundai vehicles equipped with standard cruise control or advanced Smart Cruise Control (SCC), this green icon illuminates on the instrument cluster to inform the driver that the system is successfully engaged, maintaining the desired set speed, and actively managing the throttle actuator via the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When this green indicator is active, the electronic throttle control system takes over pedal inputs to maintain vehicle momentum, relying on inputs from wheel speed sensors, the brake pedal switch, and steering wheel control modules.

Can I Still Drive with This Light On?

Yes, you can and are meant to drive with this light on. Because this indicator is green, it carries a zero-severity safety rating, signifying normal and intended vehicle operation. There is no mechanical risk, component degradation, or engine threat associated with this light. It simply confirms that your driver assistance feature is functioning precisely as commanded by the driver via the steering wheel control switches.

Common Causes of the Warning

  • System Engagement: The driver has manually pressed the main cruise control button and subsequently the set rocker switch, signaling the Engine Control Module to lock in the current vehicle speed.
  • Resumption of Previously Set Speed: The driver has pressed the resume (RES+) button after a temporary braking event, prompting the powertrain to accelerate the vehicle back to the previously stored memory speed.
  • Adaptive Distance Adjustment: On vehicles equipped with Smart Cruise Control, the system automatically moderates speed relative to traffic ahead, keeping the green indicator illuminated while dynamically adjusting throttle and braking loads.

How to Diagnose and Reset It

Because the Green Cruise Control Active Indicator Light denotes normal system operation, it does not require a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) scan via an OBD2 scanner, nor does it indicate a mechanical fault requiring under-hood inspection. To turn off this indicator light, simply tap the physical brake pedal, press the cancel button on the steering wheel, or press the main cruise control power switch to deactivate the system entirely. If the light remains illuminated when the system is switched off, it may point to a stuck steering wheel button contact or a momentary logic latch in the instrument cluster, which can typically be cleared by turning off the vehicle ignition and restarting the engine.
