Engine Volvo B5254T2

From 2002 to 2012, the Volvo B5254T2 2.5-liter turbo engine was assembled at the plant in Sweden and fitted to several of the company’s well-known models, including the S60, S80, and XC90. This power unit was given a new B5254T9 index in 2012 following a minor update.

The B5252S, B5254S, B5254T, B5254T2, B5254T3, B5254T4, and B5254T6 are the five-cylinder 2.5-liter modular engine family.

The engine was mounted on:

  • Volvo S60 I (384) in 2003 – 2009;
  • Volvo S80 I (184) in 2003 – 2006;
  • Volvo V70 II (285) in 2002 – 2007;
  • Volvo XC70 II (295) in 2002 – 2007;
  • Volvo XC90 I (275) in 2002 – 2012.

Disadvantages of the B5254T2 engine

The phase control system’s frequent malfunctions are the primary cause of these issues;
Additionally, they frequently complain about oil consumption on specialized forums as a result of clogged crankcase ventilation;
The front camshaft oil seals in this engine are continuously leaking;
The water pump, thermostat, fuel pump, and engine mounts are among the motor’s weak points. The timing belt does not always travel the planned 120,000 km, and when it breaks, the valves bend.
