With a 4.4-liter displacement and two power options, the BMW M67D44 engine is the second engine in the M67 series. Increasing power and decreasing weight were the primary goals of this unit’s development. Consequently, weight has decreased by 14% while power has increased by 16%. Innovative fuel injection technologies, a particulate filter, and a new lightweight crankcase made of aluminum alloy allowed BMW engineers to achieve these indicators without using more fuel.

During 2005, the first M67D44O1 model with 299 horsepower was manufactured and installed on the 745d E65.
The upgraded 745d E65 was equipped with the second M67TU D44 version, which had 329 horsepower and was manufactured between 2005 and 2008.
The M67 family also includes: M67D40.
The engine was installed on:
- BMW 7-Series E65 in 2005 – 2008.

Disadvantages of the M67D44 engine
Although this motor is highly dependable, it is challenging to locate a service station that will fix it;
The biggest issue is caused by turbines, which are very costly despite having a small resource;
Flow meters are another weakness of a diesel engine; they need to be replaced frequently.
AGR valve contamination may be indicated by loss of traction or unpredictable engine operation;
Additionally, the crankcase ventilation system and oil cup valves are frequently disrupted.
