Engine BMW S54B32

Compared to the S52, which was mounted on the BMW M3 in the rear of the E46, including the Z3M and Z4M roadsters and coupes, the BMW S54B32 is a more efficient and high-revving version of the engine.

Disadvantages of the S54B32 engine

The standard M54’s high oil consumption is not present in the S version. On the other hand, if such an issue arises, the valve stem seals or rings are the cause. Overheating can also occur occasionally. The cooling system’s air locks are to blame for this. Additionally, contamination of the radiator itself, damage to its lid, or issues with the pump or thermostat could be the cause.

Although this series’ unit has an amazing resource, it is important to consider the mode in which the M3 E46 models were frequently used. Any “surprises” can be anticipated based on this and the motor itself. For instance, the timing chain, liners, and tensioners must all be replaced after passing M3 an average of 150,000 kilometers. It should be mentioned that copies published prior to 2003 are more likely to have these issues. These illnesses do not affect more recent versions.

An additional significant fact. You shouldn’t break the terms of the S54B32’s operation if it was purchased in good working order. This includes pouring someone else’s oil and postponing its replacement as well as general maintenance and inspection.
