From 2008 to 2013, the 2.8-liter Opel A28NET or LP9 engine was manufactured in Australia and fitted to the second generation Saab 9-5 under the B284L index as well as charged versions of the Insignia. This turbo unit was modified to produce 325 horsepower and 435 Nm under the index A28NER.

The A20NFT, A20NHT, A24XE, and A30XH engines are also part of the A-series.
The engine was mounted on:
- Opel Insignia A (G09) in 2008 – 2013;
- Saab 9-5 II (YS3G) in 2010 – 2012 (as B284L).

Disadvantages of the A28NET engine
Keep an eye on the cooling system because this turbo engine overheats easily.
Timing chains are a very limited resource, and it will cost a lot to replace them;
Air leaks from the air filter frequently occur through the pipe;
Here, the wastegate membrane frequently bursts, but the turbine is dependable;
The unit’s vacuum, gasoline pump, and control unit are its weak points.
