Since 2015, Asian models have had the 1.5-liter Toyota 2NR-VE engine assembled in Japan. There are two versions of this motor with different compression ratios: EURO 3 and EURO 4/5. Dual VVT-i phase control systems are installed in every modification of this power unit.

The engines in the NR family are 3NR-FE, 8NR-FTS, 1NR-FE, 1NR-VE, 1NR-FKE, 2NR-FE, 2NR-VE, and 2NR-FKE.
The engine was mounted on:
- Toyota Avanza F650 since 2015;
- Toyota Rush F800 since 2017;
- Daihatsu Terios J300 since 2017;
- Perodua Myvi since 2017.

Disadvantages of the 2NR-VE engine
If they complain on specialized forums, it’s only about a small oil burner and loud work;
A water pump and ignition coils proved to be rather short-lived.
