From 1980 to 1986, the company produced the 2.3-liter Mitsubishi 4D55 diesel engine, which was used in Pajero SUVs, L200 pickups, and Galant passenger cars. The cylinder head of this power unit is known to have a number of issues.

The 4D56 engine is another member of the 4D5 family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Mitsubishi Delica in 1982 – 1986;
- Mitsubishi Galant in 1980 – 1983;
- Mitsubishi L200 in 1982 – 1986;
- Mitsubishi Pajero in 1982 – 1986.

Disadvantages of the Mitsubishi 4D55 engine
Even at low runs, the cylinder head cracked in the prechamber area of engines until 1982;
Although the cylinder head lasted longer after 1982, the issue persisted;
Owners most frequently complain about frequent oil leaks from gaskets and seals; strong engine smoke from injector nozzle wear comes in second; keep an eye on the timing belt’s condition because if it breaks, it will at least break the rocker.
