The less potent engine in the DAF 33 was replaced by the 2-cylinder DAF B85 engine for the DAF 44.

The piston stroke was raised to 73.5 mm while the bore stayed at 85.5 mm. As a result, the engine’s displacement increased from 746 to 844 cc, and its declared power increased from 28 to 34 horsepower at 4500 rpm.
Relatively low octane fuel could be used because the compression ratio stayed low. produced for the DAF 44 and DAF 46 between 1966 and 1974.
