Geely Yellow Blind Spot Monitoring BSM Warning Light

⚠️ WARNING / SERVICE REQUIRED

What Does This Indicator Mean?

The Geely Yellow Blind Spot Monitoring BSM Warning Light illuminates on your instrument cluster when the vehicle’s advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) detects a fault within the blind spot detection subsystem. Geely vehicles utilize high-frequency radar sensors, ultrasonic transducers, or wide-angle optical cameras mounted behind the rear bumper fascias and side mirrors to continuously scan adjacent lanes for overtaking vehicles. When the yellow warning light activates, it indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) or the dedicated ADAS control unit has registered a communication breakdown, sensor occlusion, hardware failure, or radar calibration error. This affects the passive safety architecture, temporarily disabling cross-traffic alert and lane change assist functionalities while leaving the primary powertrain unaffected.

Can I Still Drive with This Light On?

Because this is a yellow warning indicator rather than a red emergency prompt, the mechanical and electronic verdict is that you can safely drive the vehicle, but with strict operational caveats. Yellow lights denote a non-critical system degradation or advisory warning. Your engine, transmission, and primary braking systems will continue to function normally. However, because the Blind Spot Monitoring subsystem is compromised, you no longer have electronic radar assistance for lane changes. You must rely entirely on traditional mirror adjustments and physical head checks to monitor surrounding traffic until the system is professionally diagnosed and repaired.

Common Causes of the Warning

  • Radar Sensor Misalignment or Obstruction: Accumulations of mud, heavy snow, ice, or salt spray directly over the rear bumper radar transceivers can block signals, causing the control module to flag a temporary fault. Minor rear-end impacts can also physically shift the bracket angle of the radar module.
  • Wiring Harness or Connector Corrosion: Moisture intrusion or road debris damage to the wiring harness running along the inner rear bumper and wheel wells can disrupt the CAN bus communication lines between the BSM sensors and the main vehicle computer.
  • Voltage Fluctuations or Battery Degradation: ADAS modules in modern Geely models are extremely sensitive to voltage drops. A weak 12-volt battery or a failing alternator can starve the radar control units of stable operating current during vehicle startup, triggering a fault code.

How to Diagnose and Reset It

To properly diagnose and reset the Geely Blind Spot Monitoring warning light, begin with a visual inspection. Thoroughly wash the rear bumper fascias and side mirror housings to clear away any dirt, ice, or stickers that might be blocking the radar waves or optical lenses. If the physical exterior is completely clean, you will need to utilize an advanced OBD2 diagnostic scanner capable of reading manufacturer-specific chassis and body control module (BCM/ADAS) codes rather than just standard powertrain codes. Plug the scanner into the under-dash port, read the specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the ADAS module, and inspect live data parameters for sensor communication. If a temporary fault or alignment error is found, use the diagnostic tool to clear the codes. If a sensor is physically damaged or a wiring harness is severed, manual replacement or electrical repair will be required before the system can be successfully recalibrated and the warning light extinguished.
