Between 1993 and 1999, two of the company’s models – the C-Class in the rear of the W202 and the E-Class in the rear of the W210 – were equipped with a series of Mercedes OM604 diesel engines for 2.0 and 2.2 liters. A 2.2-liter diesel engine with 75 horsepower was modified for use in taxi services.

The diesel R4-family comprises OM616, OM601, OM604, OM611, OM640, OM646, OM651, OM654, and OM668.

Disadvantages of the OM604 engine
The motors have a 400–500 thousand km resource and are very dependable for iron.
The erratic Lucas fuel pump is the primary issue with this diesel engine.
High-pressure fuel pump gaskets eventually dry out, and not everyone will fix them.
The cylinder head can already be killed by the timing chain’s 200–250 thousand kilometers of stretch.
Additionally, the cylinder head is so terrified of overheating that it occasionally just blows up.
