From 1999 to 2007, the 2.7-liter 5-cylinder in-line Mercedes OM612 engine was manufactured and fitted to well-known concern models like the W203, W210, W163, and Geléewagen. This diesel unit had an AMG version with a 3.0-liter capacity and 230 horsepower.

The diesel R5-family comprises OM617, OM602, OM605, OM612, and OM647.

The engine was installed on:

Disadvantages of the OM612 engine
Increased camshaft wear is the issue with the series’ five-cylinder diesel engines.
The timing chain, which has a resource of about 200–250 thousand kilometers, is also used here for brief periods of time.
Here, the boost pressure sensor and injector wiring frequently burn out electrically.
If the refractory washers are not replaced when disassembling the nozzles, they will quickly coke.
This engine’s remaining malfunctions are all related to Common Rail fuel equipment.
