Engine Toyota 3E-E

From 1986 to 1994, the company produced the 1.5-liter Toyota 3E-E injection engine, which was fitted to the Tercel model in the rear of the L30 and L40 as well as the sixth generation Corolla and Sprinter. This power unit caused a lot of problems and was thought to be the least dependable in its line.

The engines in the E 1.5 L family are the 3E, 3E-E, 3E-TE, 5E-FE, and 5E-FHE.

The engine was mounted on:

  • Toyota Corolla 6 (E90) in 1987 – 1992;
  • Toyota Sprinter 6 (E90) in 1987 – 1991;
  • Toyota Tercel 3 (L30) in 1986 – 1990; Tercel 4 (L40) in 1990 – 1994.

Disadvantages of the Toyota 3E-E engine

Watch the cooling system because this unit overheats quickly and easily.
Near 100,000 kilometers, piston rings frequently lie here and an oil burner appears; overheating breaks through the cylinder head gasket, oil seals, and valve stem seals; malfunctions of the outdated ignition system cause a lot of trouble for the owners; and don’t forget to periodically adjust the valves because there are no hydraulic lifters here.
