The D16A470 engines are six-cylinder, water-cooled, direct-injection diesel in-line engines specifically made for large commercial vehicles.

The engine has a 16123 cubic meter capacity and 470 horsepower. Refer to (16 liters). For a volume of one liter (1000 cc), the power index is 29 horsepower. January 1993 saw the introduction of this kind of engine.
The engine has an overhead camshaft, a dependable and long-lasting cylinder block, and a trouble-free injection system. Each of the motor’s six cylinders has four valves. These units’ power is increased by the turbocharging system, and the Volvo D16A 470 engines’ performance and controllability have been greatly improved by the unique heat exchanger design and the upgraded engine management system (EMC-2).

Engine improvements
Lubrication system:
- full flow oil cooler;
- twist-effect full flow recyclable oil filters for excellent filtration efficiency;
- and the capability to gauge the oil level while the engine is operating.
Fuel system:
- deaeration system—when filters are changed, fuel stays in the engine;
- non-return fuel valve;
- unit injectors with electronic control;
- coarse fuel filter with a water-in-fuel indicator and water separator.
Utilizing cutting-edge technologies, the Volvo D16A 470 engines use less fuel and engine oil and require less time and money for maintenance. Higher fuel efficiency from precise combustion, air flow, and injection algorithm control can help reduce operating costs by reducing emissions and fuel consumption. They are also the best option when it comes to environmental safety.
