From 1989 to 2003, the company assembled and installed the Volkswagen 1Y 1.9 D 1.9-liter diesel engine on nearly all of its most well-known models from the 1990s. The resource of this atmospheric diesel engine was quite substantial.

JK, JP, JX, SB, 1X, 1Y, AAZ, and ABL are also included in the EA086 series.

Disadvantages of the VW 1Y engine
Many of these motors have already traveled more than 500,000 kilometers, demonstrating how durable they are.
Overheating-related cylinder head cracks are the most frequent issue with such a diesel engine.
Additionally, leaks from the high-pressure fuel pump are frequent in this area.
When a timing belt drive with a 60,000 km resource breaks, the valves always bend.
Long runs frequently result in an oil burner and ongoing lubricant leaks.
