From 1993 to 1997, the Swedish company manufactured the 2.3-liter Saab B234R turbo engine, which was installed on the 9000 model in two different versions: 200 horsepower for automatic transmission and 225 horsepower for manual transmission. With a 1.08 bar boost from a TD04HL turbine, this motor was the most potent in the line.

B234E, B234i, B234R, B235E, and B235R are 2.3-liter H-series engines.

Disadvantages of the Saab B234R engine
This motor is incredibly dependable; most breakdowns happen at high mileage.
The majority of the problems are caused by the block of balancers; many people just remove it.
The ignition cassette may burn out if the spark plugs are not frequently changed.
Only after 250,000 kilometers does oil pump wear or timing chain stretching occur.
There have been isolated reports of engine failure brought on by unscrewed connecting rod caps.
