The 2.5-liter 10-valve Volvo B5252S engine was built in Sweden between 1994 and 1999 and was fitted to a number of the company’s well-known models at the time, including the 850, S70, and V70. This engine was available with a catalyst (B5252FS) and a gas modification (GB5252S).

The B5252S, B5254S, B5254T, B5254T2, B5254T3, B5254T4, and B5254T6 are the five-cylinder 2.5-liter modular engine family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Volvo 850 in 1994 – 1996;
- Volvo S70 I (874) in 1996 – 1999;
- Volvo V70 I (875) in 1996 – 1999.

Disadvantages of the B5252S engine
This unit is dependable because it lacks both an electronic choke and a phase regulator.
The most well-known issue is the oil burner’s clogged crankcase ventilation.
Since the valves typically bend when the timing belt breaks, it is crucial to keep an eye on its condition.
This is where the oil pump gasket and the rear crankshaft oil seal frequently leak.
There is also a small resource for the fuel pump, water pump, and engine mounts.
