From 1991 to 1999, the company assembled and installed the 2.5-liter 20-valve Volvo B5254S engine on popular Swedish models like the 850, C70, S70, and V70. This motor’s modified version with a catalytic converter had a different index, B5254FS.

The B5252S, B5254S, B5254T, B5254T2, B5254T3, B5254T4, and B5254T6 are the five-cylinder 2.5-liter modular engine family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Volvo 850 in 1991 – 1996;
- Volvo C70 I (872) in 1998 – 1999;
- Volvo S70 I (874) in 1996 – 1999;
- Volvo V70 I (875) in 1996 – 1999.

Disadvantages of the B5254S engine
The intake had a capricious V-VIS system until 1996, when it was abandoned. Other than that, it is a very dependable unit that is only known for lubrication leaks; the oil pump gasket and the rear crankshaft oil seal leak more frequently than others.
Regulations state that the timing belt must be changed every 75,000 kilometers or the valves will bend if it breaks; engine mounts, fuel pumps, hydraulic lifters, and pumps have limited resources.
