Engine BMW S50B32

The 3-liter S50EU was replaced with the most potent version of the S50. With the exception of the North American and Canadian models, which had the S52 engine, this motor was mounted on the upgraded M3 E36.

A new Bi-VANOS valve timing system was installed on the 3.2-liter BMW S50B32 engine, and the valves were modified (the intake diameter was increased to 35 mm, the outlet diameter stayed the same, and the valve stem thickness was reduced from 7 mm to 6 mm). Changes have also been made to the outlet system, the thicker and shorter inlet, and the two-mass flywheel.

Disadvantages of the S50B32 engine

The S50B32 engine’s primary operating issues include overheating, increased oil consumption, leaks, Vanos system issues, floating speed, and intake air leaks.

Overheating of the power unit is a common occurrence. It is worthwhile to check the pump, radiator, and thermostat if you see an issue. Air plugs in the cooling system and a breach of the radiator cap’s integrity could be the causes.

It is necessary to check the spark plugs, injectors, and ignition coils if the engine triples. The idle valve, which may malfunction, is thought to be the source of unstable speeds. Cleaning is sufficient, and the motor will be fixed. Examine the temperature sensor, throttle position sensor, lambda probe, and throttle valve if the issue continues.

The Vanos system malfunctions as a result of the rattling engine. The engine consequently loses power and the speed becomes erratic. You will require a Vanos repair kit in order to restore functionality.

If you observe an increase in oil consumption, look for leaks in the sump and valve cover gaskets and rule out leaks using an oil dipstick. The expansion tank needs to be checked. Antifreeze will leak if it is cracked. Temperature sensors for the crankshaft, camshaft, and coolant occasionally malfunction.
