Frequent problems

The 4M40 turbine has a resource of about 300,000 kilometers. The EGR valve needs to be cleaned about once a year; otherwise, carbon deposits clog everything, causing the car to smoke and malfunction. Despite all of its flaws, the motor is still quite dependable and can easily surpass 400,000 kilometers with routine maintenance and the use of high-quality diesel fuel and oil.

injection pump that is mechanical Bosch VE is highly erratic and frequently passes through the shaft seal; the electronic injection pump’s control lever position sensor, or TPS, is frequently malfunctioning; the EGR valve and intake manifold flaps rapidly accumulate soot and become stuck; the viscous fan clutch and heating control unit may fail up to 100,000 kilometers; at high mileage, the cylinder head frequently cracks, the timing chain is pulled out, and the turbine is rented out.
