From 1997 to 2004, the company produced the Mazda FP-DE 1.8-liter gasoline engine in a variety of capacities, ranging from 90 horsepower on the base 626 to 135 horsepower on the Familia S-wagon R-4. The modern ignition system and lack of hydraulic lifters set this motor apart from the FP.

F6, FP, FP-DE, F8, FE, FE-DE, FE3N, FS, FS-DE, FS-ZE, and F2 are all members of the F-engine family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Mazda 323 BJ in 1998 – 2003;
- Mazda Familia BJ in 1998 – 2004;
- Mazda 626 GF in 1997 – 2002; 626 GW in 1997 – 2002;
- Mazda Capella GF in 1997 – 2002; Capella GW in 1997 – 2002;
- Mazda Premacy CP in 1999 – 2004;
- Mazda Protege BJ in 1998 – 2000;
- Kia Carens 1 (RS) in 1999 – 2006.

Disadvantages of the Mazda FP-DE engine
With a respectable resource and no unique flaws, this unit is straightforward and dependable;
Here, the aluminum cylinder head frequently causes overheating; monitor the cooling system;
Additionally, these power units frequently use oil on runs longer than 150,000 kilometers;
There are no hydraulic lifters here, and valve adjustment is necessary every 100,000 kilometers. The regulations state that the timing belt serves approximately 60,000 kilometers, but when it breaks, the valves do not bend.
