Engine Mercedes M104 E28

In order to replace the M103 E26, the Mercedes M104 E28 engine was created based on the M104 E32. The 3.2-liter’s cylinder block now has a new crankshaft with a 73.5 mm piston stroke.

M103 E26, M103 E30, M104 E28, M104 E30, M104 E32, and M256 E30 are members of the R6-family.

With a variable valve timing system at the inlet, the cylinder head resembles the M104 E32. Distributed injection is a fuel injection system. manifold of intake with variable geometry. A dependable two-row chain is used in the timing system.

Disadvantages of the M104 E28 engine

Numerous oil leaks are the primary issue with power units in this series.
First, the U-shaped, cylinder head, and oil filter heat exchanger gaskets leak.
The fan’s viscous coupling frequently fails, posing a serious risk to the engine.
This motor is so terrified of overheating that the cylinder head bends almost instantly.
Ignition coils and under-the-hood wiring will cause you a lot of problems.
