Engine Mercedes M104 E30

In 1989, the Mercedes M104 E30 engine was created by covering the cylinder block of the M103 E30 with a new 24-valve cylinder head. Fuel injection system: KE-Jetronic mechanical injection. A dependable double-row timing chain with a much longer service life took the place of the previous M103’s single-row timing chain.

M103 E26, M103 E30, M104 E28, M104 E30, M104 E32, and M256 E30 are members of the R6-family.

Engine performance was greatly enhanced by the use of hydraulic valve clearance compensators, a variable valve timing system on the intake shaft, and two camshafts in the upgraded cylinder head. The intake and exhaust valves have diameters of 35 mm and 31 mm, respectively.

Disadvantages of the M104 E30 engine

Numerous oil leaks are the primary issue with power units in this series.
First, the U-shaped, cylinder head, and oil filter heat exchanger gaskets leak.
The fan’s viscous coupling frequently fails, posing a serious risk to the engine.
This motor is so terrified of overheating that the cylinder head bends almost instantly.
Ignition coils and under-the-hood wiring will cause you a lot of problems.
