From 2004 to 2009, the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder Volkswagen BMD 1.2 HTP engine was assembled and used in several of the company’s well-known compact models, including the Fox, Polo, Ibiza, and Fabia. In essence, this power unit is an improved version of the more well-known AWY motor.

BMD, BME, and CGPA are included in the EA111-HTP series.

Disadvantages of the VW BMD engine
The timing chain and its hydraulic tensioner are linked to the most severe engine issues.
After parking in gear, the chain can jump or stretch up to 50,000 kilometers.
Usually, throttle or crankcase ventilation contamination is the cause of the unit’s erratic operation.
Ignition coils are short-lived, and injectors are sensitive to fuel quality.
These engines frequently experience valve burnout on runs longer than 100,000 kilometers.
