Disadvantages of the VW BME engine

The motor’s short-lived timing chain, which has a 50,000 km resource, is its weak point.
After parking in gear, the chain may jump due to a malfunctioning hydraulic tensioner.
Crankcase ventilation and throttle contamination are common causes of floating engine speeds.
The resources of ignition coils and fuel injectors are quite limited.
Because of valve burnout, compression frequently decreases at high mileage.
