Engine Audi BFL

Only the pre-restyling version of the A8 executive sedan in the D3 body was equipped with the 3.7-liter V8 Audi BFL engine, which was manufactured at the company’s facilities between 2002 and 2006. New cylinder heads with five valves per cylinder set this engine apart from its predecessor.

Disadvantages of the Audi BFL engine

This is a dependable and long-lasting power unit, but only if it is properly maintained; poor fuel and overheating result in cylinder scuffing because the cylinders lack liners;
Because the valves bend if the timing belt breaks, it is crucial to keep an eye on its condition;
The plastic rods of the dampers in the intake manifold frequently break off, and camshaft gears and hydraulic chain tensioners have short service lives.
The crankcase ventilation valve membrane and the crankshaft rear oil seal are also weak points.
