There are two BMW N62B48 engine versions. Both versions have the same engine displacement, power, bore, and stroke: 4.8 liters (4799 cc), 93 mm for the bore, and 88.3 mm for the piston stroke. One version can produce 500 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm and 265 kW (360 horsepower) at 6200 rpm. At 6300 rpm, the second version TU generates 367 horsepower (270 kW) and 490 Nm of torque at 3400 rpm.

Other modifications of N62: N62B36, N62B40, N62B44.

Disadvantages of the N62B48 engine
Overconsumption of oil. Issues related to increased oil consumption start when the engine travels more than 100,000 kilometers. The valve stem seals and rings are damaged, which is the cause. At 50–100 thousand kilometers, issues with the latter start to arise.
Revolutionary instability. Ignition coil malfunctions must be the main source of the problem. It will be necessary to replace them completely. An air suction system, valvetronic, or flow meter could be additional causes.
Oil spill. Usually, the crankshaft oil seal is where the issue first appears. The generator housing’s gasket can occasionally deteriorate. Repairs are reduced to replacing them entirely.
The catalysts are more likely to be destroyed the longer the motor is in active operation. Their honeycombs pierce the cylinders during this process, resulting in scuffing. It is therefore advised to remove them entirely and install flame arresters. Maintaining the unit properly enhances its performance and makes the most of its resources. Additionally, you shouldn’t cut back on oil and fuel.
