Only the third generation of the highly popular Mondeo model was equipped with the 2.0-liter Ford D5BA or 2.0 TDDi Duratorq DI engine, which was manufactured between 2000 and 2005. This diesel modification was primarily designed for taxis or corporate fleets.

The D3FA, D6BA, and FXFA internal combustion engines are also part of the Duratorq-DI line.

Disadvantages of the D5BA engine
French diesels quickly took the place of these engines, which are thought to be problematic;
After 100–150 thousand kilometers, a large two-row timing chain may stretch; camshaft beds are also prone to extremely quick wear in this area;
Fuel contaminants cause damage inside the high pressure fuel pump, clogging the nozzles;
The head beneath the piston pin bushing fractures during extended runs in the connecting rod.
