The most recent iterations of well-known models like the Tucson, Sportage, and Elantra are equipped with the 2.0-liter Hyundai G4NL or Smartstream G 2.0 MPi engine, which has only been produced since 2019. This power unit was installed on the Creta 2 for a while because G4NA engines were hard to come by.

A 2.0-liter distributed-injection engine was added to the Smartstream G lineup in 2019. Two nozzles per cylinder, an electronically controlled thermostat, a variable displacement oil pump, a lightweight piston, polymer-coated liners, a higher compression ratio, and an upgraded variable valve timing system with faster speed are all features that set this unit apart from its predecessor G4NA.
With an aluminum cylinder block, a 16-valve cylinder head with hydraulic lifters, a timing chain, and a Dual CVVT phase control system, this is a typical Nu series representative in every other way.
The engines G4NB, G4NA, G4NC, G4ND, G4NE, G4NH, G4NG, G4NL, and G4NN are members of the Nu family.
The engine was set up on:
- Hyundai Creta 2 (SU2) since 2021;
- Hyundai Elantra 7 (CN7) since 2020;
- Hyundai Tucson 4 (NX4) since 2020;
- Kia Sportage 5 (NQ5) since 2021.

Disadvantages of the Hyundai G4NL engine
Since this power unit is new, there are currently no statistics regarding malfunctions.
There are oil nozzles here to cool the pistons, so scuffing shouldn’t be a major issue. However, the chain hasn’t gotten any thicker, and it’s unlikely that its resource has increased significantly.
A variable displacement oil pump, polymer-coated liners, and a new electronically controlled thermostat are some of the engine’s possible weak points.
