The Mercedes-Benz OM936’s 7.7-liter engine is small and light. It offers a maximum injection pressure of 2,400 bar and features the first variable exhaust camshaft in a diesel engine in history. Five power options are available.

The engines are intended to be used on single vehicles (vans, garbage trucks, and other special equipment) for simpler transportation tasks. Aggregation of OM936 with a 4-speed transmission is permitted. On fully loaded road trains and truck tractors, the carrier receives a favorable fuel consumption to power ratio at the exit.
