Production of the OM441 series of diesel power units began at the end of 1987. Only the 501 Series compete in this class, making it one of the most potent 6-cylinder engines available today.

OM 441 has solidified its position in the agricultural industry since the 1990s. The company was able to secure multiple orders from top producers of agricultural machinery thanks to its reasonable fuel consumption when connecting additional functions (with which the combine harvesters are equipped). The 441th unit has a working volume of 11.3 liters and a power range of 204 to 340 horsepower, depending on the modification. In order to improve the motor’s performance, the developers used:
- Direct fuel supply;
- Water cooling;
- Larger cylinders;
- Turbochargers;
- 12 valves;
- Timing OHV.
Buses, medium-duty trucks, and special-purpose vehicles were equipped with OM441 engines in addition to agricultural machinery.

Frequent problems

A broken fuel pump is one of the most frequent issues encountered when using the OM441LA. When it comes to fuel quality, the 441st is modest, but when it comes to synthetic oil, it is highly erratic. The brand should be carefully chosen to avoid reducing the unit’s lifespan. Purchasing a high pressure fuel pump with a mechanical regulator is sufficient to replace a malfunctioning fuel pump on this engine. It is less “sophisticated” than the electronic one, but it is more affordable and repairable.
