The OM 660 is an in-line engine with three cylinders. The engine has a displacement of 799 cc (0.8 liters) and produces 45 horsepower (33 kW). The OM660 engine has an aluminum alloy cylinder block and head, two valves per cylinder, and a single overhead camshaft. It has an outlet gas recirculation system and is turbocharged.

A new Common Rail fuel system with higher boost pressure improved the Mercedes OM660’s performance in 2007. It was updated again in 2011 with additional performance and efficiency gains.
