From 1987 to 1995, the company assembled the 1.6-liter Mitsubishi 4G61 gasoline engine, which was used in Hyundai and Dodge vehicles in addition to its own models like the Lancer and Colt. The only power unit in its family without balance shafts is this one.
The engines 4G62, 4G63, 4G63T, 4G64, 4G67, and 4G69 are also part of the 4G6 family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Mitsubishi Colt C50 in 1987 – 1992;
- Mitsubishi Lancer CA in 1987 – 1992;
- Hyundai Lantra 1 (J1) in 1991 – 1995;
- Dodge Colt in 1988 – 1992.

Disadvantages of the Mitsubishi 4G61 engine
These engines are not threatened by the series’ primary issue because they lack balance shafts;
Hydraulic lifters rapidly malfunction and start to knock due to inadequate oil;
Idle speed is mostly caused by a dirty throttle or idle control;
The timing belt may not travel the 90,000 km allotted to it, and when it breaks, the valves bend; the power unit’s pillows, particularly the left one, are only used here for a brief period of time.
