In 2006, the 4.6-liter Toyota 1UR-FSE engine was first made available as a power source for potent executive class vehicles. This motor has a VVT-iE electric phase shifter at the intake and a unique D4-S direct fuel injection system.

The engines in the UR family are 1URFE, 1URFSE, 2URGSE, 2URFSE, and 3URFE.
The engine was mounted on:
- Toyota Crown Majesta S200 in 2009 – 2013;
- Lexus GS 460 S190 in 2007 – 2011;
- Lexus LS 460 XF40 in 2006 – 2017.

Disadvantages of the 1UR-FSE engine
The water pump has a limited resource and can leak up to 100,000 kilometers; the hydraulic tensioner frequently fails, loosening the timing chain tension; too thin valve springs burst in the early years of production; the ETCS-i electronic throttle system occasionally glitches; piston rings lie due to prolonged standing in traffic jams; owners complain about moderate oil consumption up to 0.5 liters per thousand; overall, this power unit is fairly reliable.
