From 2009 to 2019, a number of minibuses built on a redesigned platform from the T5 were equipped with the 2.0-liter Volkswagen CAAC 2.0 TDI diesel engine. The most popular diesel in the family, it’s frequently available on the secondary market.

CAYC, CAAC, CAGA, CAHA, CBAB, CFCA, CFGB, CLCA, CLJA, CKTB, CFHC, and CKUB are additional members of the EA189 series.

Disadvantages of the VW CAAC engine
Poor diesel fuel cannot be tolerated by common rail piezo injectors;
Increased oil consumption is frequently discussed on T5-related specialized forums;
A major overhaul is necessary if the drive belt breaks and falls beneath the timing belt.
Underblowing or overblowing can occur when the geometry change system becomes trapped in the turbine as a result of pollution;
The EGR valve and particulate filter are major issues at high mileage.
