The D12D420 is a 12-liter, in-line, six-cylinder, turbocharged, intercooled diesel engine with 420 horsepower. The Euro 3 emission standards are satisfied by this engine. D12D engines are produced by Volvo at a new facility that maximizes production process automation.

A new generation of Volvo’s dependable, sturdy, and long-lasting D12 engines is represented by the D12D. For ideal combustion and minimal emissions, the D12D has a new fuel delivery system and Volvo’s EMS engine management system. The D12D420 features an overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder, fully overlapping cylinder heads, and electronically operated unit injectors. The cylinder liners are replaceable and moist. Heat dissipation is greatly enhanced by the sophisticated cooling system for the cylinder liners and the block head.

The features of the D12D420 are as follows:

- An effective combustion process and minimal exhaust emissions are guaranteed by electronic engine control and ndash, EMS, and precise fuel injection.
- Fuel distribution is symmetrical thanks to unit injectors positioned vertically in the center.
- An electronic oil level sensor that outputs signals to the driver’s information graphic.
- High braking power and better handling are provided by the VEB engine brake-retarder with shut-off exhaust line.
- Power take-off from the engine in various power configurations for the hydraulic pump’s direct drive (optional).
