Engine Mini W16D16

Produced between 2007 and 2011, the 1.6-liter 16-valve Mini Cooper D W16D16 engine was mounted on the Clubman station wagon in the rear of the R55 and the three-door Hatch in the rear of the R56. A diesel engine with 90 horsepower was fitted to the Mini One D model between 2009 and 2013. These diesels are part of the broad PSA 1.6 HDi line.

Disadvantages of the Mini W16D16 engine

The camshaft cams in these diesel engines were rapidly worn out during the initial years of production;
Additionally, timing phases frequently deviate because of the chain’s stretching between the camshafts;
The turbine’s life is significantly shortened by a clogged coarse oil filter;
The burnout of refractory washers beneath the nozzles is the source of carbon formation;
The remaining issues are related to the EGR valve and particulate filter contamination.
