Before being restyled, the 2.0-liter Volvo B4204T turbo engine was installed on some modifications of the S40 sedan or V40 station wagon and assembled at the company’s factory between 1997 and 1999. The motor comes in more powerful versions with the indices B4204T2, B4204T3, B4204T4, and B4204T5.

B4204S, B4204T, B5202S, B5204T, and B5204T8 are members of the 2.0-liter Modular engine family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Volvo S40 I (644) in 1997 – 1999;
- Volvo V40 I (645) in 1997 – 1999.

Disadvantages of the B4204T engine
This series’ turbo engines have an amazing resource and are not problematic;
They frequently lament oil consumption on specialized forums as a result of clogged crankcase ventilation;
The turbocharger shaft’s wear could be the reason for the oil burn after 200,000 kilometers;
In addition to the fuel pump, engine control unit, and certain sensors frequently failing here, the timing belt may not reach the planned 90,000 km, and when it breaks, the valves bend.
