Only Southeast Asian compact models are equipped with the 1.0-liter Toyota 1KR-DE engine, which has been manufactured in Japan since 2012. This motor is as simple and inexpensive as possible; for instance, it lacks a phase regulator. The index 1KR-DE2 is carried by a slightly more potent version.

The engines 1KR-VE and 1KR-FE are also part of the KR family.
The engine was mounted on:
- Toyota Agya in 2012 – 2017;
- Daihatsu Ayla since 2012;
- Daihatsu Hijet since 2016;
- Perodua Axia in 2014 – 2017.
