Engine Hyundai-Kia G3LC

Since its assembly in 2015, the Hyundai G3LC 1.0-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine, also known as the 1.0 T-GDi, has been fitted to a number of the Korean company’s compact models, including the i10, i20, i30, Kona, and Kia Ceed. Smartstream G1.0T turbo engines were developed under the G3LE and G3LF indices based on this unit.

G3LA, G3LB, G3LC, G3LD, G3LE, and G3LF make up the Kappa R3 family.

  • Hyundai i20 2 (GB) in 2016 – 2020; i20 3 (BC3) since 2020;
  • Hyundai i30 3 (PD) since 2016;
  • Hyundai Kona 1 (OS) since 2017;
  • Hyundai Venue 1 (QX) since 2019;
  • Kia Ceed 2 (JD) in 2015 – 2018; Ceed 3 (CD) since 2018;
  • Kia Picanto 3 (JA) since 2017;
  • Kia Rio 4 (YB) since 2017;
  • Kia Sonet 1 (QY) since 2020;
  • Kia Stonic 1 (YB) since 2017.

Disadvantages of the Hyundai G3LC engine

They typically complain about the unit’s loud operation and excessive vibration on specialized forums;
Additionally, this motor cannot withstand overheating, tan gaskets, or significant leaks;
The timing chain is stretched and requires replacement for active owners even after 100,000 kilometers;
An oil burner is frequently discovered on the same run because of rings; short-lived engine mounts and an adsorber valve are also weaknesses in this situation.
