Engine Mercedes OM470

The OM470 is a four-stroke direct injection diesel engine that runs on refrigerant. The engine has turbocharging with boost pressure control, cooled and controlled exhaust gas recirculation, and a common rail diesel injection system. An exhaust-gas turbocharger is used for single-stage charging. There are two gear-driven overhead camshafts in the valve drive.

The cylinder head of the engine is a single piece. Each cylinder has two intake and two exhaust valves in the cylinder head. There is symmetry in the valves. For fuel combustion, the symmetrical valve configuration is ideal.

Common Rail fuel equipment, but with a 2700 bar maximum spray pressure. Daimler refers to this as the X-Pulse. Since the engines are limited to the Euro-6 version, a regenerable particulate filter, EGR recirculation, and SCR urea neutralization are combined here.

The engine is equipped with an Amplified Pressure Common Rail System (APCRS), a common rail diesel injection system with higher pressure. The quantity of fuel needed for combustion is reduced by this system. This system’s benefit is that both the high pressure lines and the rail itself have comparatively low pressure.
