Engine Caterpillar C18

Caterpillar (USA) produces the 6-cylinder, in-line, 4-stroke, direct fuel injection, turbocharged CAT C18 engine, which has an air-to-air aftercooling system, an electronic control unit (ADEM TM A4), and a MEUI fuel system.

Engine Caterpillar C18 - Engine Caterpillar C18

Caterpillar C18 engine power: 700–1130 HP at 1500 rpm crankshaft rotation. The engine uses Advanced Combustion Emissions Reduction Technology (ACERT) to meet Tier 3 (US EPA) and Stage IIIA (European Union requirements) emission standards. It addresses four methods for lowering exhaust gas toxicity, including:

  • fuel system;
  • clean air intake system;
  • fuel combustion process;
  • and electronic control and management system implementation.

Engine modification affects power characteristics:

  • Caterpillar C18 ATAAC — 535 kW or 727 hp;
  • Caterpillar C18 — 597 kW or 812 hp;
  • Caterpillar C18 ATAAC2 — 775 kW or 1054 hp;
  • Caterpillar C18 ATAAC3 — 831 kW or 1130 hp

Advantages of the Caterpillar C18 ACERT diesel engine

Superior assembly performance is ensured by tighter manufacturing tolerances and narrow rings fitted to the Monotherm piston.
Reduced emissions and operating costs are the outcomes of reduced fuel consumption.
The unique design of the MEUI fuel system makes it extremely dependable.
Cranks that have been redesigned are more robust and safe.

Automobile engines made by Caterpillar® C-18 are intended to run normally on vehicles weighing up to 65 tonnes. Choose axle and tire specifications that satisfy the following requirements in order to achieve a balanced vehicle performance and fuel consumption for the C-18 engine:

  • 1450 – 1550 min-1 at a speed of 90 km / h.

Extra caution should be used when choosing the appropriate transmission and axle characteristics when at least one of the following conditions is present:

  • The gross vehicle weight is more than 65 tons;
  • the road surface is poor;
  • and the elevation angles are at least 8%.
