The FR 152 is a 4.5-liter, four-cylinder, intercooled, turbocharged diesel engine. Power 152 kW (207 hp) at 2100 rpm. At 1400–1800 rpm, the maximum torque is 760 Nm. Clean combustion with post-treatment for Euro 5 emissions using selective catalytic reduction (SCR).

The cylinder block has straight cylinder bores and is supported by a cast iron frame. Additionally, the four cast iron cylinders of the DAF FR152 engine are covered by a single cross-flow head.
The aluminum alloy used to make DAF FR 152 pistons is nickel-resistant and has a symmetrical cooling system and return combustion chamber.
