The 12.6-liter, inline, six-cylinder, turbocharged, intercooled DAF XE315 engine produces 428 horsepower. The engine is built with a particulate filter installed in compliance with the Euro-3 standard’s emission level requirements. Direct injection (individual pump sections) is used in the fuel system of the XE series.

The engines bear a striking resemblance to the XF series. The fuel system is the primary distinction between the two: the XE uses direct injection (individual pump sections), while the XF uses an in-line injection pump (injection pump).
