Engine Ford RFN/RFM

The first two iterations of the highly popular Mondeo model were equipped with the 1.8-liter Ford RFN, RFM, or 1.8 Endura DE engine, which was manufactured from 1993 to 2000. The main reason for this power unit’s poor reputation was its lack of dependability.

Internal combustion engines RTK, RVA, and RFA are also part of the Endura-DE line.

The engine was installed on:

  • Ford Mondeo Mk1 in 1993 – 1996;

Disadvantages of the Ford RFN/RFM engine

The timing belt’s limited supply is the primary issue, and if it breaks, the engine will die;
The car will not start at all in extreme frost because this diesel dislikes low temperatures;
Additionally, a lot of people experienced early ring wear in the fourth cylinder;
Additionally, there are oil leaks, particularly where the cylinder block’s upper and lower sections meet;
The motor’s only advantage is that it doesn’t care too much about the quality of diesel fuel.
